IA in the Fall

Fall offers a great opportunity for our students to use the time as effectively and flexibly as they choose. With a semester away from campus, students are encouraged to use this time to strategically place themselves ahead of the competition. Whether it’s through study abroad, internships, employment, online courses, or other opportunities, IA students are able to customize their college experience here at UF.

IA students cannot enroll in on-campus courses during fall semesters.

Below are many of the opportunities IA students can pursue:

IA offers a very successful Fall Internship program with local start-up companies in Gainesville where students work in teams and earn 4 credits in the process. The program is designed to be an experiential learning course and has led to interns being offered employment at the companies and gaining a clearer vision about their own professional journey.

Students may also pursue other internship opportunities outside of Gainesville, as well. In previous years, IA had students intern at Raymond James Financial (St. Petersburg, FL), Blue Bird Bus company (Atlanta, GA), Cosmopolitan Magazine (New York City, NY), just to name a few. For several years, there have been multiple students apply and be accepted to the Disney College Program internship. For two years, an IA student earned the Innovation Academy-Rubio Fellowship and interned with Senator Marco Rubio in Washington DC! Opportunities like these are available for students who pursue them, and the IA staff are available to assist and guide students through the internship search process. Visit the Internship page for more information.

Fall is a very active time in Gainesville, and serves as a good time for students to pursue a few online classes if they wish. Students who would like to use the fall to get ahead academically have two options: online classes through UF, or courses at their local state or community college back home. To do this, look into becoming a transient student. See your IA advisor to create your schedule when choosing this option.

Innovation Academy has also caught the attention of many employers and leaders who have sought our upper-level students to work for them full-time in the Fall when all other students return to campus or can only work part-time. Whether students want to save up money for the following year, gain a new experience in a business environment, or expand their repertoire of knowledge, employment during the fall semester can be a great option. There are myriad opportunities in the city of Gainesville for employment in the fall.
Students can stay engaged in their clubs and organizations and attend UF social and athletic events. It is also a great time for those studying for professional exams like the MCAT, LSAT, etc., to have an uninterrupted semester to focus on studying for these entrance exams and not have the pressure of balancing a full-time course load.
Innovation Academy encourages students to take advantage of the wonderful study abroad opportunities that are available to UF students. The fall semester off is ideal for study abroad, giving students a larger window of time to work with when studying abroad and increased opportunities to study abroad, since the semester off is built into the IA curriculum and will not delay graduation.
