On behalf of the faculty and staff of the university, I am excited to welcome you to the Innovation Academy (IA) website. Here you will find a wealth of information about our program and the opportunities we have for innovative and driven students. I invite you to explore all that the Innovation Academy has to offer.
The development of this program centers around several indicators that suggest that U.S. innovation is lacking in key areas of our society and may account for the financial, health, industrial, and manufacturing lags that we have seen in the past several years. The UF Innovation Academy (IA) is a leading-edge program designed to bridge the innovation gap between ideas and reality, encouraging innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship locally, nationally and internationally while maximizing the resources at one of the nation’s most prestigious research universities.
IA students enroll in a unique spring-summer semester schedule and have additional opportunities during the fall and throughout the year to become actively engaged in strategic innovation, creative problem solving, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Through the innovation courses, senior capstone project, and co-curricular activities including colloquies, seminars, guest lectures, research, service learning and study abroad opportunities, IA students have opportunities to work on real-life problems and are challenged to discover innovative ways to solve them.
The innovative spirit is alive and well at the University of Florida as UF is situated in a robust environment that is on the cusp of enhanced economic and innovative growth development. From the newly established Innovation Hub at Innovation Square, to our established record of being a leader among public universities in transferring research discoveries to the marketplace, IA students and professional innovators alike are encouraged to foster creativity and an innovative spirit, which is the foundation of the Gator Nation.
IA students are invited to push past what has already been established and work toward reaching long term goals for a better nation, and a better world. Much has been said about innovation but Walt Disney put it best when he said, “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” I invite you to join us and together turn ideas into reality.
