April 2017: Terry Peppers

What year are you?

High School:

Pickerington Central High School

What is the one innovation you can’t live without?

Google Calendar. Now, the calendar itself is not an innovation nor is it a grandeur invention. However, being able to color code all my involvements and getting reminder alerts 15/30 minutes in advance has saved me many more times than I can count. Having a schedule has become my life line.

It is 2 p.m. Saturday. Where are you, and what are you doing?

If this in the fall, then I am at home getting my University of Florida gear on to hype for the football game that night! I am looking myself in the mirror saying “I’M A MAN! I’M A BEAST! I AM A MONSTER! IT’S GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY!” However, if there is not a football game, I am probably chilling with friends or my awesome girlfriend.

What are your goals at UF?
  • Become Homecoming King
  • Lead Orange and Blue in the Swamp with President Fuchs
  • Get a great job
  • Be the Hype Man Mic Man at more events outside of Football and Basketball, for example philanthropy and Greek events
  • Study Abroad
What innovative projects are you currently working on or want to work on?

I am currently exploring ways to bring students closer to involvement opportunities through a new app at the University of Florida. It is in very early stages, but if it happens, trust me you will know about it! I want it to be easier for transfer and undergraduate students to hear about all the awesome opportunities that exists on campus in real time.

Why did you choose to attend UF IA? How has it enhanced your college experience so far?

I wanted to get the minor in innovation, which is only offered here at University of Florida, because I knew it would set me apart from everyone else in interviews. I think it is nice to be a part of a small group with so many successful individuals like Kaitlin Alexander, Preston Kirkpatrick, etc. I also liked that my first semester here we had a residence hall full of IA student at Beaty Towers so it was really easy to make friends!

What are you involved in here on campus? (Clubs, organizations, hobbies, interests)
  • Mic Man Hype Man for University of Florida (Football and Basketball)
  • Cicerones
  • Resident Assistant for Infinity Hall
  • American Marketing Association
  • Innovation Leadership Program
  • Undergraduate Real Estate Society
  • Sand volleyball
What is one piece of advice you would give to incoming IA freshmen?

My biggest piece of advice besides staying on top of your grades is to get involved on campus! If you truly want to have a great college experience and differentiate yourself from everyone else to employers, get involved! Freshmen can get internships. I got one my freshmen year, did it for two years and ran my own $50,000 business selling educational material out of state! I have friends who have obtained research positions their 1st year here. The sky is the limit!

How do you plan to spend your fall semester(s)?

I have so much fun being the Hype Man Mic Man for the University of Florida in the fall that I feel blessed to have the opportunity. I get to be on the field with the athletes and pump up the crowd with my own sound system in the student section. Nothing gets me more fired up than Gator Football. I am also looking to save up money in the Fall so that I can study abroad in the spring or summer A.

How have you contributed positively to the Gainesville community?

I think I have contributed positively to the Gainesville community through volunteering through the Florida Cicerones. Specifically, I LOVE giving tour to prospective/incoming Gators. It is a great opportunity for me to share my love of the gator nation and give the high school students all the tips I can to ensure they have a smooth transition into University of Florida.
