Margaret Portillo, Ph.D., FIDEC

In the College of Design, Construction & Planning, Dr. Portillo heads a nationally recognized department and is developing the Engage Design lab that analyzes, plans and tests human-centered healthcare and educational environments.  She has published widely on creativity and has been named to a UF Research Foundation Professorship.  She served for two terms as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Interior Design and was named as an IDEC fellow in 2015 for significant and sustained contributions to the field.

In collaboration with Professor Bill Rossi from the UF Entrepreneurship program, she co-developed the Creativity in Context course and Creativity Practicum, and thoroughly enjoyed teaching these classes.  She also served as the first instructional coordinator for these courses and is involved in assessing IA learning outcomes.  Outside the classroom, she loves to read, write, visit museums, and go to arts performances, and spend time in nature with the family boxer.
