IA Alumni – Where Are They Now? Featuring Alex Egues
By Josephine Cioffero
From the UF Innovation Academy to the Ivy League, Alexandria Egues has launched a successful career among the political and business spheres on a foundation of innovation.
Egues graduated from the University of Florida in 2022 and currently works as a business analyst for TD bank in financial technology. This year, she will attend Cornell University in pursuit of her MBA.

“Coming from a background in political science, the Innovation Academy played a significant role in reigniting my passion for innovation and entrepreneurship,” she said. “As I pursue my MBA at Cornell Tech this year, my career goals are focused on transitioning into the field of venture capital.”
During her time at UF, Egues dove into the world of politics before realizing her in interest in business and the private sector. While her role at TD involves analyzing data of digital products and collaborating with stakeholders, she wants to continue using the skills she developed in IA to support her current and future endeavors.
“The skills I acquired at IA, such as using ‘how might we’ statements and practicing design thinking, have been essential in my current role,” she said. “My ultimate objective is to actively contribute to the growth and success of innovative startups through strategic investments and guidance.”
“How might we” statements prompt creative problem-solving focused on desired outcomes, and design thinking is a human-centered approach to solving complex issues. These processes are cornerstones of the innovation minor curriculum, translating across industries and applying in and out of the classroom.
Euges also said the small IA class sizes allowed her to connect with her peers and professionals in a supportive environment.
“Building and maintaining relationships in the Innovation Academy was crucial for my success,” she said, mentioning Diane “DP” Porter-Roberts as an IA professor she built a key relationship with. “Her expertise in the entrepreneurial field provided me with valuable knowledge that has greatly influenced my achievements in the fintech sector.”
Looking ahead to her attendance at Cornell, Egues advised current and prospective IA students to take advantage of their time at UF and to immerse themselves in the experience.
“Embrace challenges and be open to learning new skills,” she said. “The Innovation Academy provides a fertile ground for growth, exploration and transformation — make the most of it!”
