A Alumni – Where Are They Now? Featuring Coleman Tubbs
By Josephine Cioffero
Life is a rollercoaster, especially when working for a theme park.
Coleman Tubbs, a recent graduate of the UF Innovation Academy, has deep aspirations for his career with Universal Destinations and Experiences and currently serves as an operational alignment and compliance coordinator in Orlando.

“My interest in my current career originated from a desire to create special experiences for people,” he said. “I vividly remember the first time I walked into Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida and was completely captivated. I want to provide that same ‘wow’ factor for others.”
Tubbs knew he wanted work for a company that prioritized the guest experience, and the opportunity to intern with Universal during his last fall semester in IA positioned him in the perfect place to do so.
“The open fall semester provided a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth, and I maximized this period by actively seeking out learning and development opportunities,” he said. “My internship with Universal was particularly impactful, as it solidified my desire to work in the industry and enabled me to establish valuable connections that could benefit my career in the long term.”
Prior to starting a career with Universal, his time at UF began amid the hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he found community and opportunity within IA’s program that enabled him to connect with fellow students in an otherwise isolated world.
“Building relationships within the program enhanced my ability to interact professionally and gain confidence in classroom settings, particularly when working in small groups to address real-world problems,” said Tubbs, noting the rapid prototyping challenges and senior project as two highlights of his journey with IA.
“I consistently cultivate a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship by proactively identifying opportunities to enhance processes and approaches within my current role,” he added. “Operating in a dynamic and ever-evolving industry, my department thrives on adaptability, and I am committed to driving initiatives that position us ahead of the curve.”
Tubbs reflected on his IA experience as an exceptional way to stand out to employers but encouraged students to continue taking advantage of the unique opportunities the program offers.
“Step outside your comfort zone and approach new challenges with confidence,” he said. “While it may feel daunting at first, embracing these experiences has been pivotal to my personal and professional growth.”
