Exploring IA: A Recap of Our Fall Open House Event
By Morgan Witt
IA’s second Open House event, held on October 25, 2023, offered students a chance to explore resources, engage with faculty and win free IA merch while learning about IA office resources.
The event offered students a chance to immerse themselves in the IA environment as they were invited to join us at the IA office for fun fall activities, food and a chance to win free IA merch. But the Open House was not just about enjoying the vibrant atmosphere; it was also an opportunity for students to connect with IA staff, faculty and our dedicated IA Ambassadors, who are passionate about guiding their fellow students towards success.
The Learning Stations
To ensure that our students had a comprehensive understanding of what IA has to offer, we set up various learning stations throughout the IA office.
- Entrance: As students arrived, they were greeted by Dr. Citty, director of IA, and informed about the Checkpoint system, which encouraged them to explore the different learning stations.
- Lobby: At this station, students learned how to check in for advising appointments and were encouraged to follow IA on social media for the latest updates and information.
- Advising: This station provided students with essential information about IA’s advising procedures and the newly implemented appointment-based system. Students were guided on when to contact their college advisor versus an IA advisor, and they received important information regarding their major requirements, creating an 8-semester plan and more.
- Pitch Studio: Here, students discovered the protocol for reserving the Pitch Studio, a creative space where they can bring their ideas to life, and a brief demonstration of how the studio works.
- MALC: Students had the chance to get a glimpse of what IA classes are like and engage in a brief Q&A session with Dr. Diane Porter-Roberts, academic coordinator, along with a game of cornhole!
- Popcorn & Raffle Entry: Before leaving, students could turn in their completed IA Checkpoint card in return for snacks and entrance into the raffle for free IA merch!
We look forward to continuing to foster a sense of community and providing useful resources for all IA students throughout the academic year!
